PUBLIC & MEDIA RELATIONS
Creating and sharing timely, engaging, and relevant information is the top priority.
Managing the communication needs to close the old Indianapolis International Airport (IND) and open the new IND was a challenging and rewarding experience. I was honored to play a small role in this historic civic project.
When the time came to open the new airport, the goal was for no passengers to miss flights because they did not know the old airport was closed or how to find the new airport.
I collaborated with my CMO and team members to help plan, manage, and execute a large public information campaign. My work included managing creative services delivered by five outside agencies who produced terminal, parking, and directional maps, wayfinding and digital signage, promotional videos, professional photography, property banners, and print, digital, and broadcast advertising.
Earning fair and favorable media coverage was a key part of my role. I also led a website redesign project, wrote and designed a monthly digital newsletter sent to nearly 20,000 subscribers, helped plan special events, and led small-group tours for those interested in the airport’s art.
As the lead public information and media relations staffer at the airport, I managed all media inquiries, including crisis communication responses and FOIA requests. Responding to inquiries from corporate, municipal, and nonprofit entities as well as members of the general public was also part of my role.
I helped create and maintain the airport's first official media protocol. These standards guided all staff interactions with local, national, and international news reporters, editors, journalists, photographers, and videographers.
To develop media statements and key talking points, I worked closely with C-suite executives, board members, legal counsel, TSA officials, the airport police and fire chiefs, airline managers, and subject matter experts.
